Petersburg, VA Lauds EViD Electronic Pollbook
Elections Staff Pleased by Cost Savings and Ease of Use

Tallahassee, Florida - January 18, 2017 – After using the EViD® electronic pollbook for the first time in an election, officials in Petersburg, Virginia welcomed the improvements in the voting check-in process and overall time and cost savings.

“The EViD system was awesome from start to finish. Performing check-ins was so simple and fast, requiring minimal processing time even when we added a printer into the mix,” said Dawn Williams, General Registrar, Petersburg City. “The ease at which our staff could perform the functions saved the city money we would have previously devoted to IT technical assistance. Those savings can now go to updating our other components.”

Petersburg City began training their workers on EViD just ten days prior to the presidential election that took place in November. Williams noted how easy it was for workers to learn a new system, “Our workers left the training feeling confident. They had an amazing election day experience using the EViD under high volume turnouts.”

The EViD electronic pollbook is provided to Virginia jurisdictions by BEC in conjunction with VR Systems, a leading provider of elections technology and products. VR first began offering electronic pollbooks a decade ago, and in the recent election more than 14,000 were in use around the country. BEC serves numerous Virginia customers including Albermarle, Franklin, Halifax and Henrico.

The EViD system offers the following benefits:

  • Built-in “What if” document compliance
  • Runs on existing Windows based computers and tablets
  • Intuitive, easy-to-use interface
  • Voter-friendly features such as precinct look up and address change
  • Rapid start up and close down designed to save time
  • Reliability that comes from over a decade of development experience and product refinement

Any jurisdiction that utilizes EViD is supported through a comprehensive customer service program, which includes a wide variety of training options and 24/7 on-call support. Williams stated, “VR and BEC worked diligently with us and were present, on-call and available if needed. The support and communication were wonderful.”
