Elections Technology Leader Makes Its Way To Florida’s Polk County
VR Systems Now Serves 95% of Florida Counties

TALLAHASSEE, FL – February 17, 2015 – One of the nation’s premier elections technology companies, VR Systems, Inc. today announced it signed a contract to provide voter registration and advanced elections management products and services to the Supervisor of Elections Office in Polk County, Florida. The agreement will result in a more robust, convenient and streamlined voter registration experience for Polk County’s 361,000 registered voters.

VR Systems, headquartered in Tallahassee, Florida and serving jurisdictions in 14 states around the country, now counts 64 of Florida’s 67 counties as its customers.

Under the contract announced today, Polk County will implement VR Systems’ Voter Focus software, a fully integrated, comprehensive voter registration elections management system. In addition, Polk County will use VR Systems’ web-managed services solution for optimum elections information and reporting for the benefit of the media and the public.

“VR Systems offered a solution that will best serve Polk County’s voters,” said Lori Edwards, Supervisor of Elections for Polk County, Florida. “The new process will offer more robust tools for voters to inquire about their voter registration status or mail ballots and should ensure that our office can accommodate the growth and modernization we expect in our industry.”

VR Systems’ Voter Focus elections management solutions improve the voting process by:

  • Automatically checking voting eligibility;
  • Recording early voting directly into voter records online at voting time;
  • Providing helpful information on candidates and on polling place locations for the public;
  • Accurately recording and reporting voting turnout for the Florida Department of State;
  • Offering complete tracking, verification and management of vote-by-mail ballots;
  • Providing comprehensive election worker management tools to track assignments, conduct training, administer payroll, etc; and,
  • Validating petitions and voter signatures.

“Our innovative technology and streamlined approach will result in county elections that are efficient, cost effective and most importantly, deliver a superior voting experience,” said Jane Watson, President of VR Systems. “As Florida’s leading vendor of elections management software tools, we have developed deep expertise in how best to address the complexity of rapidly changing elections environments through technology. We are pleased to support the Supervisor so that Polk County voters may feel confident and secure in their ability to participate in the democratic process.”

This agreement with Polk County comes on the heels of a recent expansion by VR Systems. Late last year, the company purchased the elections management assets of Decision Support, LLC, headquartered in Matthews, North Carolina. The acquisition extended and strengthened the company’s market reach — increasing access for elections administrators nationwide to innovations that support more efficient and transparent elections.

“Over the past 20 years we have developed trusted partnerships with almost all of the counties in Florida,” said Watson. “We look forward to now extending our expertise to jurisdictions across the U.S.”
